Child shark caught in glove rescued by couple on scuba diving journey in Rhode Island

A pair’s scuba diving journey in Rhode Island become a mission to rescue a child shark.

Deb and Steve Dauphinais, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, had been diving on the sand flats off Jamestown, Rhode Island, when Ms Dauphinais noticed the 16in juvenile shark with its head caught inside a piece glove on the backside of about 35ft of water.

Ms Dauphinais, a dive teacher, stated she thought the shark was lifeless, however when it twitched she motioned for her husband to return over and assist.

“He came over and did his own little double-take,” she stated.

She stated her husband tugged on the glove, which gave the impression to be suctioned to the shark’s head, however it will definitely popped free.

Ms Dauphinais stated they weren’t frightened of being attacked by what seemed to be a juvenile dogfish shark, however had been cautious, in case it snapped at them.

“It kind of looked at both of us, didn’t look at all injured, got its equilibrium back and then swam off back to where it is supposed to be,” she stated.

Ms Dauphinais, who has been an teacher for about three a long time, stated this isn’t the primary time she has rescued a marine animal in misery.

A couple of years in the past, she freed a black sea bass that had been hooked on a discarded fishing line.

“There are countless stories of underwater sea creatures being killed by underwater sea trash,” she stated.

“It’s an ongoing issue that’s near and dear to my heart. But these are the only times I’ve been able to save something, at least a shark, like that.”
