This Is Me…Now: A Love Story evaluation – J Lo’s self-indulgent homage to like

According to the lead single from Jennifer Lopez’s second album, launched a few years after her first divorce from Ojani Noa, love don’t value a factor.

Almost 25 years and three additional marriages later (by way of Cris Judd, Marc Anthony and now Ben Affleck), the Latin pop diva revisits that assertion in a semi-autobiographical companion movie to her first studio album in a decade.

Co-written by 54-year-old Lopez, This Is Me… Now: A Love Story spares no expense dramatising her turbulent romantic life as lavish music video spectaculars together with the main girl using a wrecking ball to her malfunctioning mechanical coronary heart.

The skinny connective tissue between these show-stopping set items is Lopez’s alter ego, a hopeful romantic who believes “love never dies and forever is real”.

She ricochets between remedy classes and a love addicts nameless assembly beneath the heavenly gaze of a zodiacal council performed by the likes of Jane Fonda, Sofia Vergara and Post Malone, who bicker and quip.

All roads result in the emotional devastation of splitting from Ben Affleck, who bookends the movie.

The playful self-indulgence and Lopez’s homage to Singin’ In The Rain go away a candy style within the mouth identical to the post-credits out-take involving marriage ceremony cake.

And if that is not sufficient, and you’ve got any lingering doubts about her love of hyperbole, you will get the total ‘actual story’ later this month on Amazon Prime within the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
