Full listing of Empire Cinemas closures as agency enters administration

The Empire Cinemas chain has entered administration, resulting in the lack of 150 jobs and the closure of six cinemas.

Eight of the 14 cinemas within the group – below the Empire Cinemas and Tivoli manufacturers – will stay open.

But the places which have been closed with rapid impact are:

• Bishop’s Stortford
• Catterick Garrison
• Sunderland
• Swindon

• Wigan

The already closed cinema at Sutton Coldfield is not going to reopen, the directors from accounting agency BDO, introduced. Any advance tickets purchased for the closed cinemas shall be refunded, the directors mentioned.

Gift playing cards and visitor passes will proceed to be accepted on the open cinemas.

Sites to stay open are situated in:
• Birmingham
• Clydebank
• High Wycombe
• Ipswich
• Sutton
• Bath
• Cheltenham

The directors say they’re in search of a purchaser and have blamed the monetary impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation and the price of residing disaster for the closures.

A restructuring associate at BDO, assigned as an administrator mentioned, “The well-publicised challenges for the leisure sector from the influence of COVID-19, rising inflation and the cost-of-living disaster have considerably affected the businesses’ enterprise.

“The remaining open sites are continuing to trade while we explore the sale of as much of the business as possible,” Tony Nygate mentioned.

A complete of 437 workers are employed by the group in England and Scotland. The 150 workers affected by job losses shall be made redundant.
