Joe Lycett has raised greater than £50,000 for a homelessness charity in response to Suella Braverman’s feedback about tough sleeping – and despatched a message to the house secretary.

The 35-year-old comic advised his 1.4 million Instagram followers he wished to assist the charity Crisis after Mrs Braverman branded the use of tents by the homeless “a lifestyle choice”.

Crisis, which thanked Mr Lycett for his fundraising efforts, stated in response to the house secretary: “Sleeping on the streets is not a lifestyle choice. We don’t have nearly enough affordable homes and rents are soaring, leaving people destitute and forced to sleep rough.
