The fireplace at Luton Airport automobile park was began by accident because of a car fault, Sky News understands.
A person in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of felony injury in connection to the incident on 10 October.
It is believed the person, who has been launched on bail, was arrested as a precaution and the police investigation to date suggests the fireplace began by accident because of a car fault.
Earlier this month Andrew Hopkinson, chief fireplace officer with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, mentioned as many as 1,500 autos had been within the automobile park on the time – with as much as 1,200 believed to be broken.
A Bedfordshire Police spokesman mentioned: “Police arrested a person in his 30s on suspicion of felony injury in connection to their investigation into a major fireplace in a parking lot at London Luton Airport on Tuesday (10 October).
“We are carrying out a thorough and diligent investigation into all potential lines of enquiry, as should be expected after such a major event.
“The man has been launched on bail whereas our enquiries proceed.”
Luton Airport said last week that it was “unlikely” that any vehicles would be “salvageable” following the fire, which caused a partial collapse of the car park.
It mentioned it had supplied the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) with the registration particulars of 1,405 autos and, together with its parking supplier APCOA, it had responded to virtually 16,500 buyer queries because the fireplace.
An airport spokesperson mentioned it recognised it has been an “extremely distressing” time for these affected and it was working with the Association of British Insurers to determine the potential of safely retrieving any private objects from the autos.
